Benjamin Sullivan mugshot

(Windom, MN) – A Jeffers man who assaulted a woman with a shower curtain rod is headed to prison.

Benjamin Wayne Sullivan, 38, was convicted of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon in Cottonwood County Court Friday.  Two additional charges were dropped as part of an Alford plea made in April.

Sullivan was sentenced to serve 34 months in the St. Cloud Correctional Facility, with credit for 186 days served.

Court records say that a drunken Sullivan broke into the home of the victim on December 3rd, threatened to stab her and used a broken shower curtain rod to cut her face.  The victim and her sister both had orders of protection against Sullivan.  When police arrived on the scene, Sullivan reportedly became agitated.  He refused to show his hands and said to police, “don’t shoot me, I’m not black.”

Sullivan has previous convictions for drug possession, theft, and disorderly conduct.
