Mankato woman fatally injured in Olmsted County crash

A Mankato woman was killed yesterday morning when a Prius and a straight truck crashed in Olmsted County.

The state patrol says Lenora Tahtinen, 83, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at Highway 30 and Co Rd 8, about five northwest of Stewartville.  A crash report says the straight truck was northbound on Co Rd 9 and Tahtinen’s Prius was eastbound on Highway 30 when the vehicles collided at the intersection. 

The truck driver, 60-year-old Jeffry Burnikel, of Lime Springs, Iowa, was transported to St Mary’s Hospital in Rochester with non-life threatening injuries.

Road conditions were wet at the time the 8:45 a.m. crash occurred, according to the patrol’s report.
