New Ulm restaurant owner pleads guilty to tax fraud

A New Ulm restaurant owner has pleaded guilty to multiple felony tax charges. 

Juan Manuel Ocampo-Bunola, pled guilty to five felony counts of assisting in the filing of false or fraudulent sales tax returns.  He was sentenced to probation for two years and was ordered to pay more than $469,000 in restitution. 

Ocampo-Bunola was charged in January with 29 tax-related felonies.  The charges accused him of underreporting sales between 2017 and 2020  at Plaza Garibaldi in Redwood Falls and New Ulm, and at La Terraza in Mankato, which closed last week.
