Officer shot and wounded in Duluth released

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — Police say the Duluth officer shot and wounded in a fatal domestic assault standoff has been released from the hospital.

Authorities say Officer Aaron Haller was treated at the hospital and released after he was hit by gunfire that killed his K-9 partner, Haas. The man involved in the standoff who fired the gunshots was later found dead in the residence Sunday evening.

Police say they negotiated with the man for about an hour before he began shooting at them. At least one officer returned fire.

After police gained access to the home they found the man dead in a room.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.
