Pair from Monticello gravely injured in Sibley County motorcycle crash

(Mankato, MN) – Two people from Monticello were seriously injured after their motorcycle collided with a deer in Sibley County.

The crash happened Saturday evening at about 5:15 p.m. on Highway 5 between Hamburg and Green Isle.

According to the state patrol, operator Curtis Allen Bechthold, 59, and his passenger, Carmen Renee Bechtold, 55, suffered life threatening injuries in the crash.  Both victims were transported from the scene to Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.

A state patrol crash report says the 2013 Harley Davidson RS was northbound on Highway 5 at the time of the crash.

It’s unknown if alcohol played a role in the crash.  Neither rider was wearing a helmet, according to the crash report.
