Mustang driver dies in crash with Waseca volleyball team bus

A South Dakota man was killed when a car and a school bus carrying a Waseca volleyball team collided in Faribault County Saturday night.

Waseca Public Schools confirmed that no students or staff were seriously injured in the crash, which happened shortly before 9 p.m. on I-90 south of Wells.

The state patrol says Mark Alan Tigner, 55, of Brandon, SD, was fatally injured and died at the scene of the crash.

According to a crash report, the bus, driven by Charles Edward Cone, 79, of Waseca, was eastbound on I-90, and Tigner’s 2006 Ford Mustang was westbound on I-90 when the vehicles collided at Highway 22.

Seven teenage girls on the bus were transported to Albert Lea for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Cone and a 24-year-old female bus passenger weren’t injured.

Waseca Public Schools said in a Facebook post that they were following up with students and families to support them through the event.
