A Welcome man accused of body-slamming a teenage boy has been sentenced to three days in jail.

Michael Edward Shumski, 36, was sentenced last week in Martin County Court on misdemeanor charges of domestic assault and possession of drug paraphernalia.

District Court Judge Michael D Trushenski stayed 87 days of a 90-day jail sentence and gave credit to Shumski for three days already served. Shumski will also remain on county-supervised probation for one year.  He’s also been ordered to have no contact with children under the age of 18.

A criminal complaint says that in December 2022, Shumski body-slammed a 13-year-old boy to the ground at least twice and shoved him into a trash can during a fight over an EBT card.  The boy visited an emergency room and was placed in a neck brace and x-rayed for pain in his knee and neck, although no fractures were discovered.

Charges say marijuana and a glass pipe were also found on Shumski’s person at the time of his arrest.

Several misdemeanor charges of assault and malicious punishment of a child were dismissed.
